40 Years In Property: Adam Sparks Celebrates Four Decades Serving Chandlers Ford
From a YTS apprentice at a local estate agent to building Chandler’s Ford’s best-known estate agency, there are few people who know the Chandler’s Ford property market quite like Adam Sparks.
This year marks a remarkable 40 years since Adam began his career in estate agency, a journey that has taken him from a local YTS apprentice to becoming one of the most experienced and recognisable figures in the area’s property industry. Throughout those four decades, one thing has remained constant – his connection to Chandler’s Ford.
Adam was born and bred in the town. He attended Scantabout School before going on to Thornden, and after leaving school began his career with local estate agency Chandlers, joining through a YTS scheme. It was the start of what would become a lifelong career in property. After two years with Chandlers, Adam moved on to Winchester before subsequently working in Southampton, gaining valuable experience across different markets and learning the many different aspects of the estate agency business.
Then, at just 24 years of age, came a significant milestone, Adam was appointed Branch Manager of a Chandler’s Ford office. Three successful years followed, before another opportunity came calling and Adam moved to manage the company’s Winchester office. Again, he excelled, after three years in Winchester, and still only 30 years old, Adam was appointed Area Director, responsible for 14 offices and around 130 members of staff.
It was a remarkable progression for someone who had started just a decade earlier on a YTS scheme in his home town. But in 2003, Adam decided to take the biggest step of his career. Alongside long-time business partner Mark Ellison, he launched Sparks Ellison Estate Agents in Chandler’s Ford. More than 23 years later, that decision has created a business that has become firmly established at the heart of the local community.
23 YEARS OF SPARKS ELLISON
Sparks Ellison has grown into one of the area’s leading independent estate agencies, with a team of 14 people covering sales and lettings.
Yet despite the growth and success, Adam has never lost sight of what brought him into estate agency in the first place – people and property.
For four decades, he has helped generations of local families buy and sell their homes, building relationships that often continue long after a transaction has completed.
His knowledge of Chandler’s Ford is particularly unique.
Having grown up in the town and lived locally for more than 50 years, Adam has witnessed enormous change in the area, from its development and growth to the transformation of its property market.
He has seen roads and neighbourhoods develop, watched generations of families move through the town and experienced property markets ranging from booming conditions to some of the most challenging periods the industry has faced.
That experience is something that cannot simply be learned from a textbook.
MORE THAN JUST ESTATE AGENCY
For Adam, estate agency has never simply been about putting houses on the market. He and Mark have always believed that an independent agent has a responsibility to the community in which it operates.
Over more than two decades, Sparks Ellison has supported local schools, clubs, sports teams, community events and organisations across Chandler’s Ford and the surrounding area. Football has been a particular passion, with Adam and Mark recently renewing the company’s relationship with AFC Hiltingbury, having previously sponsored the whole club for more than 15 years. That involvement reflects something Adam has always valued – giving something back to the community that has given him so much.
40 YEARS – AND STILL AT THE COAL FACE
Perhaps the most remarkable part of Adam’s 40-year career is that, despite his experience and seniority, he remains very much involved in the day-to-day business. He is still meeting clients, carrying out valuations, talking to buyers and sellers, negotiating deals and keeping a close eye on what is happening in the local market. Estate agency has changed dramatically since Adam started his career in 1986. Technology has transformed the way properties are marketed, buyers search for homes and transactions are progressed, but Adam believes that some things have not changed.
Trust, experience, communication and relationships still matter.
And it is those principles that have helped Sparks Ellison establish such a strong reputation locally.
A CAREER BUILT AROUND CHANDLERS FORD
Reflecting on the milestone, Adam’s career can be viewed as something of a full circle. He started his working life in estate agency in the town where he was born and raised. He went on to manage offices in Chandler’s Ford and Winchester, become an Area Director responsible for 14 offices and 130 people, and ultimately return to his home town to build his own independent agency. Today, more than 40 years after that first YTS placement, he remains passionate about property and about Chandler’s Ford. His dedication to the industry, unrivalled experience and depth of local knowledge have become a defining part of Sparks Ellison. Perhaps the greatest achievement is the number of people whose lives he has touched along the way.
Forty years. Thousands of properties. Countless relationships. One hometown.
And, remarkably, Adam Sparks is still doing what he loves.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
Sparks Ellison has now been part of the Chandler’s Ford community for more than 23 years.
Adam and Mark are proud of what they have built, but neither has any intention of taking their position or reputation for granted.
The property market will continue to change. Technology will continue to evolve. The way people buy and sell homes will continue to develop.
But for Adam, the fundamentals remain the same.
Know your market. Know your clients. Work hard. Be honest. And never forget that, when someone asks an estate agent to sell their home, they are trusting them with something that is usually far more important than a property.
After four decades in estate agency, Adam Sparks knows that better than most.
Congratulations Adam – 40 years in estate agency, and still proudly serving the community where it all began.
